HACOAJ SHELANU BEYAHAD
OUR STRENGTH COMES FROM UNITY

Supporting Israeli Independent Businesses
Our Support, Their Strength

Israel has been attacked. We have seen horrific atrocities committed against our people, and now we are in a war that we did not choose, which may go on for many months.

This has real, direct consequences for everyone in Israel, and amongst the hardest hit are independent workers, entrepreneurs, the self-employed and small business owners, all of whom rely on economic stability to sustain their businesses and provide for their families. The war means that many have now completely lost their incomes – businesses are shut, work has stopped, providers and young people are on the front-lines, there are no tourists, and lives have come to a standstill. We are already seeing the negative economic effects, and worse, we do not know how long this situation will last, or how bad it will get.

So, that’s why we are reaching out to you today. We are a grass-roots organisation of young, proud Israelis – all self-employed - determined to do what we can to help those in our communities who we see are suffering at this
very difficult time.

We are asking for donations, which we will distribute directly to Israeli independent workers, entrepreneurs, self-employed individuals and small business owners who have lost their incomes, and who can demonstrate a
clear and immediate need for financial help.

Every shekel/dollar will be used
for this purpose, so any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference, and allow us to provide meaningful assistance to those in need. In this difficult time, a small amount of financial support could make all the difference to a self-employed business owner who might be struggling to keep a family fed.

who are we:

Michal Mika Gurovich

I'm a lifestyle photographer, and live in central Israel. I take portrait photos mainly for social media, helping both men and women find love in the digital era.

On October 7th I woke up to a nightmare. Israeli civilians were attacked and murdered - many friends and people in my community were at the Supernova dance festival, and almost real time I saw videos from them of what was
happening. A few hours later Israel declared war, and I had a severe panic attack – I literally struggled to breath. Of course, even in my worst nightmares I could not have imagined how terrible and horrifying the situation was, but I
knew immediately that this was different: a new horror that I and no-one my age in Israel had ever experienced before.

My sister Galit has post-traumatic stress from missile sirens in the past, so as soon as the missiles began to rain down, we dropped everything and went up north, where it is relatively quiet, to stay with friends. We are still there.

After a few days, as the magnitude of what happened in southern Israel began to unfold, I realized that this war is not going to end in days or weeks. My business stopped immediately, and I am not going to have any clients for the
foreseeable future - no one is taking social media dating photos at a time like this. Then I began speaking to friends and colleagues across Israel, and realized that there are countless independent business owners just like me, whose work has come to a complete stop, and who now face the prospect of not
having any income to rely on, for who knows how long.

And, there is little Government support for us at this time. Understandably, national resources right now are mainly focussed on supporting our troops, and helping those from the communities in the south of Israel whose lives have been totally destroyed.

That is when the idea behind this initiative – Hakoach Shelanu Beyachad - came to us. A direct effort to help independent workers and small business owners in Israel get through these harsh times, pay their rents, and feed their kids.

We know there are lots of charities and organisations seeking your support at this time, and all are worthy. Any help you can offer at this time, no matter how small, will be truly appreciated, and it will be used to assist ordinary
Israelis in need, directly.

Hoping for better days,
Michal Mika Gurovich.

Galit Gurovich

I am an Israeli-Argentinian, and have been living in Argentina since 2004. There I am involved in teaching Hebrew to Olim Hadashim through virtual means, and I also work as an astrologer and family constellation therapist.

A few months ago, I arrived in Israel to visit my relatives, who live in Ashdod. It was meant to be a time of celebration, as we welcomed the arrival of a new child and grandchild into the family. But since the onset of the war in Israel on October 7th, life has stopped, and my sister Michal and I, along with other friends, have been confronting the economic challenges that independent workers are now facing.

In this challenging context, an idea came to mind. We decided to establish a foundation with the purpose of raising funds to assist other independent workers who are experiencing a similar situation to that of my sister. Our primary objective is to provide support and offer a glimmer of hope to those who are going through difficulties in these trying times.

Examples from posts in various Israeli women’s groups on FaceBook

"Is the state going to help us? does anyone know what the procedures are in
current circumstances? I can't just breath and relax, I have rent to pay, I have credit cards debts, and I

don't have any savings..."

"My husband was drafted to the army, we're both independent, both of our incomes have stopped as of October 10 th ... what am I supposed to do? I am completely lost! I have 2 kids, I'm having panic attacks, my mom did the last grocery shopping for us, I don't have one shekel, all the checks I'm writing are bouncing... I can't breathe!!"

"R.I.P to all small businesses in Israel, we just started to recover from covid!!"

"Our bank accounts are bleeding, There's no money, and the banks are telling me- get checks from your clients. this is madness Businesses are going to collapse!!"

:How We Will Distribute Your Donations

We are a new organisation. We do not have offices, staff, or people to pay. We want to make sure that every dollar / shekel is put to maximum use, right now. We also want to make sure there is full transparency.

Anyone asking us for help will be requested to provide proof of their income for the last several months, and to demonstrate that they have lost all or most of that income.

Depending on how much funding we have available, we will then aim to provide a one-time financial support payment equal to half of one months’ income. For households will children, we will increase this to 75% of one months’ income, if we can. Overall, we think that this should be enough allow
people to sustain their basic needs like food, rent and utilities for at least the next few months.

We expect we might receive many more requests for assistance than we will have funds available. To be fair, we will therefore try to assist people in the order in which they make a request, but we will also take into account special circumstances, such as when children are involved, or where a household may
have lost a primary income earner.

We will only assist those who can show they are independent workers, entrepreneurs, self-employed or small business owners. This is not to say that others in Israel experiencing hardship at this time are not worthy, but there are other sources of funds and other social security services available to them with
support.

We will ask all recipients to provide a confirmation of the assistance they received and a brief written testimony, and we will seek their permission to allow us to post this on our web-page, so that you can see exactly to whom your donation has gone, and for what it is being used for.

Being a new organisation and trying to respond real-time to an unprecedented challenge, we have not yet been able to register as an Israeli charity – in any case, most Government offices are closed or operating on a limited basis at this time. But we are looking into it and hope to be able to become one soon.

Am Israel Chai.
